The SCOOTER Store Public Affairs

Screening Process

In 2008, The SCOOTER Store received over 509,208 inquiries for power mobility. During the initial interview, our trained personnel screened out 77.5% of those inquiries. Many of those disqualified during the initial consultation were successfully referred to our Retail Sales department.

Only 11.6% of the original inquiries were approved by their personal physician, who determined that medical necessity existed. Prior to product delivery, 0.8% of the orders were cancelled because the individual did not meet final qualification.

The Screening Process

The SCOOTER Store's screening process is made up of Nine Quality Review Standards that include file reviews and file and phone audits by our own Medicare Compliance and Medical Review departments to ensure medical necessity has been confirmed by an individual's physician according to guidelines established by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Federal law. The SCOOTER Store's comprehensive review checkpoints go beyond Medicare's own guidelines and documentation requirements because we are committed to providing power mobility only to those who truly need it to carry out their activities of daily living.
