Quality Review Process

  • Marketing and education outreach is dedicated to create awareness of the advancements in power mobility technology and make people with disabilities and their families aware of their mobility alternatives.
    • It is intended to educate the consumer about alternatives to nursing homes and other institutional settings;
    • Educate physicians about how power mobility lets their patients stay in their homes and continue to care for themselves.
    • Power mobility empowers seniors and people with disabilities to perform daily activities, lessening the burden on both professional and family caregivers.
    • Power mobility saves the US government money by enabling seniors and people with disabilities to become more mobile and self-sufficient.
  • Medicare requires that in order to obtain a prescription for a scooter or power wheelchair, the patient must see their physician so that a thorough examination can be conducted.
  • Then, providers work with the patients' own treating physician and assist them with carefully choosing the right mobility solution that allows their patient to safely carry out their activities of daily living.
  • Power mobility providers want to help seniors continue living in their homes through the use of their mobility benefit. This benefit allows seniors to complete the day-to-day tasks that nursing homes are paid to do while helping them remain in the comfort of their homes.

Screening Process

For example, at The SCOOTER Store, only approximately one in every 10 seniors who contact the company receives a power wheelchair or scooter. Almost 78% of potential customers are disqualified by the company's screening process.

Our meticulous process is made up of over 70 Quality Review Standards that include file reviews and file and phone audits to ensure medical necessity has been established by a beneficiary's physician. Additionally, all physician prescriptions and medical records are carefully reviewed by a highly qualified team of 60 nurses. As a result of our clinical and quality standards, 98% of the claims filed with CMS over the past 20 years have been paid by Medicare.
