If you have Medicare Part A and B you are entitled to have your equipment provider submit a claim submitted to Medicare and to receive a determination as to whether Medicare will reimburse you.
Only the motorized portion of the lift chair is a Medicare covered item. If you qualify, Medicare may cover up to 80% of the approved amount for the motor only. This amount varies by state. You would be responsible for any copay or deductible amounts as well as the additional cost of the lift chair itself. To determine if you qualify, you would need to take the following steps:
Obtain a prescription for the seat lift chair from your physician.
Your equipment provider has a specific form for your physician to fill out. You will need to take this form (or have your provider send it) to your physician. It contains several questions about your condition to help determine your Medicare coverage. In order to qualify for reimbursement of the seat lift mechanism under Medicare, there are a few things to keep in mind: 1) Your physician must diagnose you with severe arthritis of either the hip or knee, or a neuromuscular disease. 2) The seat lift mechanism must be a part of your doctor's treatment plan to help either improve your condition or slow down or stop the progression of your condition. 3) You must be unable to stand up from a regular armchair or any other chair in your home. 4) Once standing, you must be able to walk, even if you use a cane or walker to do so.
Once your equipment provider obtains the appropriate medical information from your physician, you can select, and order your lift chair. Upon obtaining your lift chair, your equipment provider will submit a Medicare claim for you.
If you would like The Scooter Store to file a Medicare Claim on your behalf,, please call 1-800-391-7237 to speak to one of our customer support specialists.
If you would like to buy your chair online, this means you choose not to authorize The SCOOTER Store to submit a Medicare claim for you. If you file a claim for the lift chair motor in the future and did not follow the steps above prior to accepting delivery of the equipment, your claim will be denied. You will be held financially responsible for the transaction.
