The SCOOTER Store's Gift of a Power Wheelchair Allows Woman to Enjoy Active Life Once Again
Gift of Mobility Lets Nursing Home Resident Participate in Activities and Enjoy Day Trips
Columbia, S.C.—The arts and crafts table at the Heartland of Columbia Nursing Home just got a bit more crowded. Thanks to a free power wheelchair from The SCOOTER Store, Pam Lewis, 47, is now back crafting and enjoying life with her new mobility.
Heartland's activities director, David Moreland, knew Ms. Lewis loved to participate in arts and crafts projects, flower arranging and other recreational activities. But he also knew that, without a power wheelchair, she could not participate. He saw her spirits sink as immobility caused her to stay in her room all day.
While he was watching television, Mr. Moreland saw an advertisement for The SCOOTER Store. Because of the "credibility of its spokesperson," he felt The SCOOTER Store genuinely wanted to help people be mobile and independent. He wrote a letter to see if The SCOOTER Store could help Ms. Lewis.
Mr. Moreland was "floored" to learn that just one week later The SCOOTER Store would provide her a free chair. "Even though she has no money and no insurance, The SCOOTER Store found a way to give Ms. Lewis a power wheelchair and, in turn, a fresh outlook," he said. "My hat is off to The SCOOTER Store because this wheelchair will take her body and mind to a happy place."
Mobility Manager, Tony Williams, of The SCOOTER Store delivered the chair to Ms. Lewis today under their "Gift of Mobility" program. The program provides mobility equipment and assistance to those who do not have the resources to purchase power wheelchairs and scooters. The SCOOTER Store is working in conjunction with the ADL Foundation/Mobility Aids for the Uninsured. www.adlfoundation.org
