The SCOOTER Store and Dream Foundation Provide Toms River Registered Nurse with Power Wheelchair Gift
Kathy Brainard Needs Power Wheelchair to Improve Mobility at Home and in Community
TOMS RIVER, N.J., February 6, 2007—The SCOOTER Store, working with the Dream Foundation, today donated a power wheelchair under its Gift of Mobility program to Kathy Brainard, a registered nurse, who suffers from a series of health problems that have limited her mobility.
In a letter requesting to participate in the Gift of Mobility program, Ms. Brainard, 47, a Toms River resident, wrote: "I am so frustrated as I am a Registered Nurse and after helping so many people throughout the years, financially and emotionally, and now that I need it I can't get it anywhere. I do hope you will help me out. All I need and hope to get is any kind of scooter/wheelchair, new or used that will help me out to go about my life."
Doug Harrison, CEO and Founder of The SCOOTER Store, said the Gift of Mobility program was created to help people like Ms. Brainard.
"Unfortunately, there are many people who don't have the insurance coverage or resources to obtain the power mobility equipment that can make a big difference in their lives," Mr. Harrison said. "Our Gift of Mobility program tries to fill in the gap, and help as many people as we possibly can with the gift of a life-changing, power wheelchair or scooter."
The gift to Ms. Brainard was made in partnership with the Dream Foundation, the nation's first and largest organization that grants wishes to adults who have been physically, emotionally and financially devastated by serious illnesses. Jim Vaughn, from The SCOOTER Store's Aston, Pa. retail store, made the delivery of the power wheelchair to Ms. Brainard.
"We sincerely hope that this power wheelchair can restore some freedom and independence to her life," said Mr. Harrison. "With this power wheelchair, Ms. Brainard should be able to get around her home and neighborhood again."
The SCOOTER Store, the nation's leading provider of power wheelchairs and scooters, created its Gift of Mobility program in December 2002. Since its inception, the outreach program has worked with organizations around the world to donate more than $200,000 per year in power wheelchairs and scooters and manual wheelchairs to community service organizations enabling them to provide freedom, independence and personal integrity to those with limited mobility.
