The SCOOTER Store Earns ACHC Re-Accreditation; Cited for Outstanding Service and Patient Care
Nation's Largest Power Mobility Provider Continues Commitment to Higher Standards
New Braunfels, TX, November 16, 2006—The SCOOTER Store, as a result of its outstanding procedures and patient care, has been awarded re-accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care Inc. (ACHC), one of the highest certifications available for healthcare providers.
ACHC is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit, third-party organization that offers accreditation programs for a variety of healthcare providers, ranging from home health agencies and hospices to medical equipment suppliers like The SCOOTER Store.
"We are honored to receive re-accreditation by ACHC," said Doug Harrison, CEO and Founder of The SCOOTER Store, which is the largest provider of power wheelchairs and scooters in the nation. "It is a tribute to our management team and employees that we provide such outstanding service that ACHC certifies that our procedures and patient care are among the best available anywhere."
Mr. Harrison noted that at a time when durable medical suppliers are challenged by excessive documentation demands, as well as Medicare price cuts, The SCOOTER Store has continued to demonstrate a high level of execution in all areas from billing to training to customer service and others. During the extensive, 13-month review, The SCOOTER Store unequivocally met all 156 of the ACHC requirements.
Moreover, the ACHC surveyors noted that the same level of cleanliness and aptitude found at The SCOOTER Store headquarters was also apparent at the company's retail locations across the country, showing a high level of consistency.
"The surveyors made the overall comment that they were very impressed with the high morale of our employees and that we had one of the best atmospheres for employees and most positive team environments of any company they have seen," Mr. Harrison said, noting that he "is extremely proud" of his workforce.
"The SCOOTER Store exhibits a very high level of service and patient care," said ACHC President Tom Cesar. "By attaining re-accreditation, The SCOOTER Store continues to demonstrate its commitment to maintaining a higher level of competency and striving for excellence in its products, services and customer satisfaction."
Furthermore, Mr. Harrison said The SCOOTER Store implemented quality standards before mandatory service levels were established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS), which oversees the Medicare system. "By taking the pro-active step of voluntarily enacting quality standards that govern our billings, procedures and patient care, we were better prepared to meet the rigorous standards required to be accredited by ACHC," Mr. Harrison said. "We are pleased that our self-imposed standards are actually tougher than what the Medicare system requires."
