The SCOOTER Store Provides Gift of Mobility to Katrina Victims
Over $1 Million in Wheelchairs, Canes, and Walkers will be Distributed to Disabled Survivors
NEW BRAUNFELS, TEXAS—The SCOOTER Store, America's largest supplier of power mobility products, today donated over 2,000 wheelchairs and 900 canes and walkers to the American Red Cross and other relief organizations. The donation, valued at over $1 million in equipment will be given as part of The SCOOTER Store's "Gift of Mobility" program. It will help disabled victims who may have lost their mobility equipment to Hurricane Katrina.
"Hurricane Katrina spared no one in its path of devastation. Lives, homes, and belongings were lost, but many senior and disabled citizens also lost something that most take for granted, personal mobility," said Doug Harrison, founder and CEO of The SCOOTER Store. "'Always Do the Right Thing' is The SCOOTER Store's motto; this was an easy decision for us."
The mobility equipment will be distributed free of charge in shelters and distribution centers throughout the Gulf Coast area. Additionally, representatives from The SCOOTER Store will be available to adjust the equipment for each recipient to help ensure a comfortable fit and safe operation.
