WHY POWER MOBILITY?

With a power chair or scooter, your patients have the freedom to get around their homes and take care of themselves so they don't have to rely as much on others for everyday needs. They are less likely to fall and hurt themselves.

By providing greater independence, a power chair or scooter can:

  • help your patient avoid a move to a nursing home.
  • reduce the incidence of falls.
  • empower people to care for themselves, reducing the burden on family/caregivers.
  • increase a feeling of self-worth, and lessen depression.
  • help your patient stay socially active and a vital member of the community.

Who can power mobility help?

  • People who have a medical condition that makes walking difficult or impossible.
  • People who need a wheelchair, but can't propel a manual wheelchair.
  • People who need help getting around their homes to do common daily tasks such as preparing a meal, getting dressed, getting to the bathroom.
  • People who have fallen in the past year.
  • People who find their limited mobility makes it hard to fully enjoy life.
  • People who are no longer able to visit neighbors without assistance.
  • People who live in a retirement community and can't get to the dining room without assistance.
  • People who, if there was an emergency, could not get out of their homes without assistance.
  • People who need assistance to go shopping, to their place of worship, to important venues, or even to visit their doctor.
