ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
According to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the following questions provide clinical guidance for prescribing power mobility:
- Does the person have medical conditions that interfere with or prohibit him or her from performing one or more mobility-related activities of daily living such as toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming, and bathing?
- Does the person demonstrate the capability and willingness to operate the power chair or scooter safely?
- Is the person unable to resolve mobility limitations with the use of a cane, walker or manual wheelchair?
- Does the person's typical living environment support the use of the power-operated vehicle?
- Does the person have the sufficient strength and postural stability to operate a power chair or scooter?
