Job Overview

Alliance Seating & Mobility is comprised primarily of Assistive Technology Professionals (ATP) – an industry-based certification given to service providers who meet specific requirements and pass a comprehensive examination.

A further description of the ATP role is given by RESNA, the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America:

An assistive technology professional is a service provider who analyzes the needs of individuals with disabilities, assists in the selection of the appropriate equipment, and trains the consumer on how to properly use the specific equipment. This equipment may include manual and power wheelchairs, alternate computer access, augmentative and alternative communication devices, and other technology to improve the function and quality of life for an individual with a disability.

Candidates must currently be ATP-certified in order to be considered for these positions.

How to Succeed

Successful ATPs have a strong interest in helping those with special needs that can only be met by high-end rehab equipment. Strong relationship management skills and plenty of patience really help ATPs in their role. Excellent product knowledge is expected as well as the ability to understand specific customer needs and the products that can best help customers overcome their disabilities.
